A real story about living in a car, rebuilding life from zero, freedom, survival, and the journey toward a different life.

Why I Started Living In My Car

A few years ago, I never imagined my life would end up like this.

The last years changed everything.

First, my grandmother passed away. A few months later, my grandfather died too. Then my father drowned. At the same time, my relationship with my wife completely fell apart.

And all of this happened while war was happening in my home country.

I’m originally from Ukraine.

I lived there for almost thirty years and never imagined I would one day leave everything behind and start over somewhere else.

Over time, many things that once felt important slowly lost their meaning.

I started asking myself questions I had ignored most of my life:

Around that time, I discovered the Camino de Santiago.

Eventually, I decided to go.

For ten days, I walked alone across northern Spain with nothing but a backpack and my thoughts.

And honestly, something changed inside me there.

For the first time in years, I felt disconnected from noise, stress, expectations, and routines.

When I returned to Poland, I realized I no longer wanted to keep living the same way.

At the same time, my income had almost completely collapsed, and after years of constantly moving between apartments, I felt mentally exhausted.
